Hard stand and soft stand are terms used in the aviation industry to describe different types of aircraft parking areas. A hard stand is a designated area on the airport apron that is paved with concrete or asphalt, providing a solid surface for aircraft parking. On the other hand, a soft stand is an unpaved area on the apron, typically made of grass or gravel, which is used for aircraft parking when there is a shortage of hard stand space. Hard stands are generally preferred for parking larger aircraft due to their solid and stable surface, while soft stands are used for smaller aircraft or during peak traffic periods when all hard stands are occupied. **
